In this Reddit post by MegaJake95, he sent an e-mail to Morris asking about whether or not the possibility of a remaster, sequel, or reimagining of Empire at War could actually happen at EA, noting that their sudden interest in the long-dormant Command and Conquer IP makes it seem like developing more RTS games could be on the table. As it turns out, the person asking him was not a journalist, but a fan! The Petroglyph Games developer has been involved with multiple prior Command and Conquer titles, so it seems inevitable that someone would ask him about whether or not there would be a new Star Wars game made in the same genre. Ted Morris directed the original Empire at War, and his name has recently popped up in the spotlight with last year’s announcement that the original Command and Conquer game, along with Command and Conquer: Red Alert, would be getting 4K remasters. Star wars empire at war first order license#However, it does not seem like this is the end for Star Wars games in this format, as the director of Empire at War has discussed the possibility of making a sequel to the game with Electronic Arts, who currently have an exclusive license to make Star Wars games until the end of 2023. When not sedentary, Kyle enjoys traveling to the National Parks, seeing new cities, and has ambitions to explore abroad.Star Wars is a genre that’s been well-suited for the real-time strategy (RTS) genre, so it’s weird to think that the last time that it’s been done in a computer game format was with 2006’s Star Wars: Empire at War and that game’s expansion, Forces of Corruption. He's a firm believer in three hours being the perfect length for a movie, but thinks a lot of games are much too long. Or he's trying to get you to watch Mad Men. When not talking about The Legend of Zelda, Dark Souls, Mass Effect, or some PlayStation exclusive, he's probably droning on about the works of Cormac McCarthy, Frank Herbert, Stanley Kubrick, and Wes Anderson. A terminal Midwesterner who graduated from the University of Kansas, Kyle also has knowledge and interest in literature, film, film adaptions of literature, and history. His tenure at SR began in late 2020 as a contributing Game Features writer before quickly becoming a Staff Writer, a role that gradually progressed into an Editor position. One of Kyle's earliest memories is of watching his older brother play Ocarina of Time, which probably explains how he ended up as an Editor for Screen Rant's Gaming section. The New Republic, remnant sects of the Empire, and extremist groups like the First Order could all have gameplay advantages and mechanics that intersect in a galaxy-wide conflict. This tumultuous era in the Star Wars timeline sets a great stage for modes like the original Empire at War's Galactic Conquest. The rise of the First Order isn't entirely explained by the sequel trilogy, and while some of it is elucidated by comics about Kylo Ren and Supreme Leader Snoke, an RTS would be a great way to show the build up to the First Order/Resistance War and the New Republic's defeat hinted at in Disney+ shows. This time period could also be more closely tied to the movies if a slightly larger time jump is taken. Instead of the usual Empire versus Rebellion setup, different Imperial factions could be playable against each other. Alongside Star Wars' rumored The Mandalorian game, a new Empire at War could be set after Return of the Jedi, potentially offering a fascinating depiction of the power struggle that ensues following the loss of the Emperor and Vader. The title could take on a whole new meaning by exploring the time period shortly after the Galactic Empire's fall, an era already being explored by the Disney+ shows. Being made over 15 years later by different developers could mean an Empire at War sequel is more of a reboot.
